A wonderful, hearty beef stew made even better than the ordinary by adding pearl barley. And since it's in the Crock Pot, when you get home from work your house will smell heavenly!

Mother use to make this when we were growing up. She would make mashed potatoes and serve the soup over them. It was a family favorite. She got the recipe from an annual church dinner that was held in a very small town outside Wichita Falls.
