This looks like a lot of work, and it is, but it's worth it. It also helps if you do some prep the day before. Dale says the end result is what all soups should be like.

A wonderful, hearty beef stew made even better than the ordinary by adding pearl barley. And since it's in the Crock Pot, when you get home from work your house will smell heavenly!

I clipped this out of the Houston Chronicle last week and made it this last Monday night. It is scrumptious! And very easy preparation too. It tastes good enough to serve at a dinner party, but it's easy enough to fix during the week too.

I use a pasta maker to "roll out" the dough - much easier than rolling with a rolling pin. I also frequently make the liver mixture in the morning, refrigerate it and make the "packets" in the afternoon. Pat and I usually make the packets together. Cutting the recipe in half works well for two people. There is always enough for at least one more day.
