~~~This happened during one of the Family Vacations back to Ohio. The year 1958 comes to my mind, but more knowledgeable attendees may enter updates in comments:
~~~The family had stopped to eat Breakfast or Lunch; we were re loaded in the De Soto and continuing our journey in what must have been Missouri or Arkansas, when Kathleen, Rita or yours truly had a sudden and violent stomach ache.
~~~The pains, so vivid for the rest of us, were soon multiplied in the others and all the kiddos were sick. The up and down driving in the hilly/mountainous area was thought to have been one cause for our ailment Fortunately, our Dad, the Doctor, was driving and a remedy was sought and applied. Daddy stopped somewhere, a drugstore, perhaps, and purchased a bottle of Spirits of Peppermint.
~~~ Mother, preparing cups of water with the active agent in solution, told us to just sip it. It was too strong to drink very much at one time.
~~~The cure was a success and we were all in short-order, happy campers, again.
~~~After the cure I recall placing our half-empty/full glasses on the back ledge in case the aches returned where they were soon forgotten. Hours later, during a stop for Gasoline, more food, or the night and sleep, I noticed that each of the cups had black things in them, ribbon like structures that made the liquid no longer usable for drink. Mother's advice: Pour it out the window.

Mother avers that it was Kathleen who was sick. This contention received the mention that I was there and was also sick. Anyway, this is my story and I'm sticking to it.
This story is for the ages and Matthew isn't the only more knowledgable one to have read his story, but I wasn't there. Have you been approached by the mights from Hollywood about a film version? Academy Award, I imagine.
It was I! This is one of the few childhood memories I have, so you can amend your story as such. Another part of your story which may needed appending is that, being the littlest to go on the trip (Margaret and Timothy were carted off to the Mitchke's), my spot in the car was to lie across the back ledge. I think, for the most part, Daddy (behind the wheel), Mother, and Patrick had dibs in the front seat, leaving Leah, Matthew and Rita to the back seat, and yours truly "on the ledge." How could you have put your cups in my space? My guess is we set them on the ledge when we got out to spend the night at the hotel and in the morning things had grown....

Whatever, Kathleen
Whatever, Kathleen
An important part of my story is the discoloration or transformation of the liquid which I also drank to excellent results. And you could not have spent too much daytime time on the ledge; you'd have been Fried KK. N'est-ce Pas?
Thanks for responding, twice is nice
Quoting MGK, "you'd have been Fried KK."
Indeed, on more than one occasion one or another or all of us would say, "Tell Kathleen to get down from there, she is beginning to stink." (burning flesh and all)which is to say that I saved your bacon or with others did, on more than one occasion.
