Can You Tinikle?

Ask yourself, “Can you tinikle?” I am sure most of you are saying yes to this question. You brain says, “Of course! I can tinkle.” But you know what? I didn’t ask that.

Tinikle is the national dance form of the Phillipines. It involves the beating of 8 foot poles it a waltz rhythm. You hit the bamboo sticks on the floor twice, and then together once. At the same time, two people facing each other are doing the various dance steps. It is very fun. The music played is something like this (http://bose.tamayo.com/private/mp3/Tinikling.mp3). (NOTE: Stepan, I don’t know where my tools went to add a link. So this will do).

I dedicate this topic to such an entry because a friend of mine and I were talking about this a couple weeks ago. We remember doing this is 6th grade (for our P.E. class). We laughed very hard.

It wasn’t the topic of the tinikling itself, but what we remember is how uncoordinated we were and how the two people on each side of the bamboo poles were so out of rhythm that the two dancers would get their ankles crushed MORE THAN ONCE. I think I fell down one time. I’m sure other people did too. It was just hilarious.

I think I want to do this at a party in the near time future. It would be very funny (esp. with people under the influence). Well, happy tinikling!
