Update on my Weekend: (with pictures of course!)
Friday: I played in the band at the volleyball game. The Aggies beat Texas Tech 3-2. Boy, it was such a good game, not to mention that I got paid $15.00 to play. I love how much the athletic department has. After the game, I was hungry and ate dinner at a sandwich place on campus called Rumour’s. I ate with Allison Preston, a french horn player who went to Katy High School, but she graduated a year after me. After we ate, I think it was about 11 o clock when I got back to my room. About 10 minutes after I got back in, Kelly showed back from her Friday night festivities, and we just chilled and watched movies. I think I watched Shawshank Redemption. MMMM…good movie.
Saturday: I woke up and did some homework for about 3-4 hours. It was sooo delightful (sarcastic), but I’m glad I did it. At around 3, I went to run some quick errands before the game. I went to CC Creations and bought an TAMU shirt for $5.00 shirt. (They were having their annual tent sale). I also stopped by Walgreen’s so that Kelly could drop off her film. We then went back to campus for the game. Shortly after, my football was assembling at my dorm. It was me, Brandon, Taryn, Michelle, Amy, and Johnny. Not everyone knew each other, but we all got along and had a great time. The football game was a pretty good one even though there were some close calls and things that the Aggies did which caused us to lose a big lead, but we won, and that’s all that matters when it comes to football in the Big XII. Below is a picture.
After the game, everyone except Brandon went to El Chico to eat. It was very good, not only because their queso was complimentary, but we had a good time. I dropped people off at their respect places, and then I went home to relax and then sleep.
Sunday: I did some homework, went to Brandon’s concert, then went out with his family to eat. It was really nice seeing them again. Even though I’m coming home this weekend, it’s just nice to see them. All of us also went back to their apartment to chill for a while. I got back to my place a little after 7 or so. I studied a little more, went running shortly after, and now I sit here telling you about my weekend.
But I must go now. Have a wonderful week.
For this weekend, I planned on going home to visit my mom, stepdad, Kari and Andy (Sooner friends), and Brandon’s family—-particularly Rachel and Hannah. I left College Station around 2:00 p.m. after an obscurely worded physiology test and got into Katy at 3:30 p.m. I just hung out at the house until 5 or so, and then I went to Brandon’s house from 5-8 p.m. At that time, I became a chaperone for a date and just saw that family. Like good ole’ times. At 8, I drove home and stayed the whole night there.
We ate salmon, pearl onions, fruit salsa, and rice-a-roni. (my favorite homecooked meal). Of course, it was a request. :) After dinner, we watched the presidential debate. I’m not going to put my opinion on the debate here, seeing as our family is so diverse, and if I did, I would have an extensive amount of comments.
So after the debate, I went into my mom’s bedroom to talk to her, but then all of a sudden, she goes into her closet (where all the Christmas gifts are “hidden”), and she’s like, “20 questions!” I start guessing, and after calling Matthew for help (because supposively he’s the expert on 20 questions, according to my mom), I figure it out in 6 questions that it’s a purse. I like it alot! It’s brown and leather and perfect. So that’s was pretty exciting.
I then go to the computer room to just chill, and I start talking to some of my friends. 30 minutes passes after the first gift. Then, here comes my mom with something enclosed in her hand. I’m thinking, “What is this? How cool.” Then, she’s like, “20 QUESTIONS!!!!” After 6 questions or so, I guess it. The gift was an awesome pair of turquoise stud dangle earrings. I would never pick them out myself, but I really like them. They make my ears look cute.
After a while, John finds out what my mom did, and he’s just shaking his head. REALLY FUNNY. Then, we somehow proceed back into their bedroom, and then all of a sudden, my mom spontaneously decides that John should guess too. At first, John refused to even guess because he didn’t want to know what it was, but we all know how persuasive my mom can be sometimes. So, he gives in and starts guessing. He starts by asking questions like:
1)Is it clothing? NO
2)Is it a gift certificate? NO
3)Is it something we’ve talked about? NO
4)Is it a gift certificate? NO
5)Is it from a department store? NO
6)Is it from a store? NO
Then, my mom tells John to call Matthew, and M starts to guess. He asks some questions and gets really close. (He asks questions such as 1) is it a concert ticket? NO 2) is it a ticket to an athletic event? NO 3) is it a ticket? YES YES YES) Then, Matthew figures it out. It’s a ticket. Whoo hoo.
The actual present was an airline ticket for John to fly to Colorado and spend 1 week with his grandaughter’s 1st b-day in March. (It’s kinda nice how that occurs during perfect skiing weather time.)
And that was my Christmas in October. I should really come home more often.
This weekend was good for a couple of reason.
I bought produce.
I had the option of sleeping naked.
I took a random drunk person home at 3:30 in the morning.
I saw a dog eat its own feces. (quite amusing, but still pretty disgusting)
I watched two movies.
I played Ultimate Frisbee with people whom I have never met.
I went to the volleyball game which was absolutely amazing.
I bought a Donavon Frakenreiter CD.
I went swimming and it felt like I was swimming through isopropyl alcohol (i.e. really easy).
I did random karoke in my room.
I went to Pita Pit.
I used a dollar off coupon there.
I found out that we have a Russian stalker in my dorm who is in his 40’s.
I didn’t have that much homework to do.
I’m hyper and am not going to sleep for a while.
Whoo hoo.
Today I participated in a Fast-a-Thon, led by the Muslim Student Association on campus. The basic idea is that for every person pledging to fast from sun up to sun down (just like Ramadan), sponsors will donate $1 for every person willing to fast. I have to admit that it was awesome. Sure, I was hungry, weak, and tired throughout the day, but it was for a good cause. Now, I am truly grateful for what people who can not afford food go through. And I do mean truly grateful. We all say that we’re grateful for everything we have, but I don’t think until we endure it, we really don’t know. Maybe I’ll fast right before Thanksgiving so that I can actually be thankful instead of having something be so ritualistic, that saying thanks just becomes words and not a belief.
P.S. After fast, I definitely had 3 plate-fulls of free Ramadan/Indian type food. It was so delicious. (Spicy chicken, rice pilaf with yogurt/cilantro mixture, mashed potatoes, corn, sweet bread)
I urge you to try it. No water. No food. All will power. I like it
That’s all I have for now. Maybe some
